Current Work Product Issues in Taxation: Preservation, Waiver and Tax Accrual Work Papers

Learn and discuss how to protect communications between the tax practitioner and the client.As the IRS is faced with fewer and fewer resources, tax audits tend to involve less discussion and more broad requests for information (e.g. all records). As such, it is important for the practitioner to know how to keep critical documents and communications confidential. Learn how to keep the confidential, confidential; how to protect communications between the tax practitioner and the client; and how to make sure communications and documents are either attorney-client privileged, tax practitioner privileged under Section 7525, or privileged under the work product doctoring. This information will focus on tax accrual work papers and when the IRS can and will seek those documents. The material will also reviews common traps for the unwary with respect to protecting documents and communications.
