Gain a better understanding of identifying and preventing substance and drug use in the workplace.
Employee alcohol and drug misuse is a symptom of a deeper problem that employers can help address. Despite the presence of drug-free workplace policies (DFWP), the vast majority of businesses treat these as a 'check-the-box' or 'have to have' rather than an opportunity to provide effective wellness, well-being, and healthy culture messages to employees and their families. Moreover, despite the DFWP, employee rates of alcohol and drug abuse have not changed - and even worsened - over the past 10 years. This topic helps any person who is involved in providing education, training, policy development, or health promotion (wellness, well-being) as it relates to the prevention of substance misuse amongst employees by (a) deepening their understanding of the ROOT CAUSES of the problem, and (b) giving them evidence-based tools (training tips, articles, posters, information guidelines) that have been shown to be effective. These tools have actually been recognized by the U.S. Surgeon General as effective in reducing employee substance abuse. They have been applied in corporate settings, small businesses, for profit, and non-profit agencies.
