Servicemembers Civil Relief Act Protections and Postponements

Competently represent our service members by understanding the applicability of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA).

The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) provides a number of benefits and protections to certain military personnel, including protections that can be used in bankruptcy proceedings or to help avoid bankruptcy altogether. Many attorneys representing service members do not understand the scope of the SCRA, resulting in the service member not taking advantage of all benefits that they may be entitled to. Many attorneys representing civilians, including creditors, do not completely understand the applicability of the SCRA resulting in possible liability for noncompliance. This topic helps the persons responsible for advising service members, civilians and private entities to understand the ins and outs of SCRA, SCRA's procedural protections, compliance, common pitfalls, recent actions, updates in the law and what they mean to clients. This topic is critical for attorneys to ensure they are aware of the applicability of the SCRA and potential liability for noncompliance.
