Conflicts of interest pose enormous risks to lawyers and their firms, including disqualification, disgorgement of fees, loss of clients, damage to reputation and professional discipline. Dealing with conflicts of interest is therefore one of the most important - and complex - components of a law firm's risk management program. Although some conflicts can be obvious and are generally avoided, there are significant conflicts that arise which the practitioner does not realize or overlooks.
