Estate Planning Considerations for Soldiers and Their Families

March 4

Learn how to properly advise and plan for a veteran who is eligible for VA benefits.

The purpose of this topic is to enable professional advisors, such as attorneys, CPAs, financial planners and anyone that provides financial and legal advice to veterans and their families, to better identify and advise their clients about a seriously under utilized benefit for war period veterans and their surviving spouses. If the advisor is not aware of this unique benefit, they will not be able to give the veterans and their families competent representation. This lack of knowledge could cause the veterans and their families to miss out on this valuable benefit. This, in turn, can hurt the advisor’s reputation and may even lead to a malpractice claim.

Learning Objectives

  • You will be able to define who will qualify for VA pension.
  • You will be able to describe the steps to qualify for the VA pension.
  • You will be able to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of implementing the plan to qualify for VA pension.
  • You will be able to explain the tax implications of rearranging assets to qualify a person for the VA pension.
