There are 27 million foreign-born workers in the United States, making up 17% of the total workforce. Of those 27 million, 47.9 percent of the foreign-born labor force is Hispanic. This topic will identify and examine the different issues a rapidly increasing multicultural workforce poses for employers. It will focus on various legal and practical topics which directly relate to employing a multicultural workplace, with a particular emphasis on issues related to working with a Hispanic workforce including immigration and legal issues; common pitfalls employers make with Hispanic workers and how to avoid them; tips to how to capitalize on the strengths of a Hispanic workforce; communication with Hispanic employees - When is English required? When is it optional?; cultural differences; recruitment and other issues surrounding the Hispanic population growth.
