Many governmental entities are interested in mandating sustainable building practices.
To date, the typical approach is to require LEED® certification. However, there are inherent drawbacks in this approach since voluntary rating systems are not designed to impose minimum mandatory requirements, as contemplated by building codes. In contrast, the ICC International Green Construction Code and ASHRAE Standard 189.1 were designed to establish minimum mandatory requirements for incorporation in a building code. Now that the IGCC and Standard 189.1 are beginning to converge, it is likely that municipalities will give serious consideration to adopting the IGCC. This OnDemand Webinar will give you the background you need to participate in discussion of whether the IGCC should be adopted in the jurisdictions in which you do business, and in what form, and to comply with the IGCC in jurisdictions where it is adopted. Learning Objectives •You will be able to review the use of model building codes and the movement from voluntary rating systems to mandatory standards of sustainability. •You will be able to define the development of specific standards suitable for inclusion in mandatory building codes, specifically the IGCC and Standard 189.1. •You will be able to discuss in detail on the framework and content of the new ICC International Green Construction Code. •You will be able to recognize substantive "Green" areas covered by IGCC.
