Fire resistance rated construction is used to contain a fire, confine the effects of a fire, protect people and property, and provide structural stability during a fire event. Improper design or construction of fire rated assemblies could result in unexpected losses during a fire. Prescriptive codes, such as the International Building Code, contain a variety of requirements related to fire resistance rated construction. You will gain an appreciation for the expected performance of fire resistance rated construction and how to ensure that the design, construction and use of a building is consistent with the intent of the requirements in the International Building Code.
Learning Objectives:
You will be able to discuss fire resistance rating.
You will be able to identify performance requirements.
You will be able to review evaluating assemblies for compliance.
You will be able to explain fire tests.
