Effective Quality Control and Quality Assurance

Delivering quality in building design and construction faces two major challenges. The first is that buildings are becoming ever more complex and less resilient against normal use. HVAC, Controls, and Lighting systems in even simple buildings can be quite challenging and innovative. Building enclosure technology is rapidly changing with new ideas such as rainscreen walls and air barriers. New materials are entering the market and many are not as durable traditional materials. Energy savings are driving a good bit of this innovation. Second, delivery of these complex buildings is during an era of increasingly tight fees for architects/engineers and competitive pricing for contractors. Both the design and the construction community are challenged to deliver a quality product for their clients and still maintain some reasonable profit. Presented by two individuals with long backgrounds in quality programs from both design and construction, this OnDemand Webinar will illustrate steps that each member of a project team, including owner, architects, engineers, managers, contractors, subs and suppliers can take to deliver quality buildings. The meaning of quality to the various team members and the cooperation of those members in an integrated process will be explored. Examples of specific programs and quality management systems will be explained. Learn the realistic application of quality management tools and the limits of those tools. Quality processes certainly come at a cost, but methods to minimize the cost, or even to provide a payback on the investment in quality will be illustrated. This OnDemand Webinar is critical for individuals and firms who are not satisfied with "good enough" and demand quality.

  • You will be able to describe formalized programs.
  • You will be able to explain measuring design and construction quality.
