Supreme Court of the United States Deals Huge Blow to Government Unions
Recent decision overturns decades old ruling.
In 1977 a ruling allowed public sector unions to charge nonmembers a fee being equal to the cost of dues that a union member would pay to offset the expense of collective bargaining, contract administration and grievances. In a close decision, SCOTUS now has ruled that government employees who don’t want to pair with a union can’t be forced to bear the cost of union fees. This white paper reviews the practical effect of this ruling.
