Updated OSHA rules give little guidance as to when drug use can be a contributing factor in an injury or illness.
OSHA requires that employers inform employees about how to report occupational injuries and illnesses. Updated rules clarify that the reporting method required by employers must include a reasonable procedure for employees to report injuries and illnesses, and not discriminate or retaliate against employees who report such injuries or illnesses. The new rules are meant to encourage employees to report work-related injuries. Employers who do not comply could be handed serious and costly penalties.
