Choosing a topic
One of the most common complaints of speech writing is that many don't know where to start. If you find that you have nothing to say, then your topic is too broad and you need to narrow it down. The more specific your topic, the easier it will be to find what you want to talk about. Yes, this seems counter-intuitive, but it is true.
You may already have a topic or an idea for a topic. You may have even been assigned a topic. The next step is to find the angle, segment, or topic within that topic.
Imagine that you are giving a speech about cats. You've been staring at a blank screen for hours, trying to figure out where to start. The problem is that you know a lot about cats - too much, maybe. What are you going to talk about?”
