AIA Document A201-2017 is the General Conditions of the Contract for Construction. It is probably the most frequently used of the AIA documents. It is adopted by reference into the agreements between the Owner and the Contractor and Contractor and Subcontractor. AIA Document A201-2017 is used on both public construction contracts and private construction contracts. The General Conditions spell out the and further define the obligations and duties running between the parties to the construction contract. The purpose of the General Conditions is to ensure consistency between the numerous contracts on a construction project. By incorporating a standard set of General Conditions into the various construction contracts, the parties guarantee that everyone is working from the same starting point.
