Federal statutes involving debt collection – FCRA and FDCPA.
When a data furnisher receives valid notice from a consumer reporting agency that a consumer has submitted a dispute; the data furnisher must take five steps including, conduct a reasonable investigation with respect to the disputed information; and reviewing all relevant supplementary documentation provided to the CRA by the consumer. This white paper reviews the remaining steps under the FCRA, and discusses the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and compliance with statutory disclosures.
