CMS Proposes New Hospital CoPs for EHR Electronic Patient Event Notifications

Who should receive event notices?

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have submitted a proposal to hospitals for new Medicare Conditions of Participation (CoPs). This proposal calls for the hospital electronic health record to send electronic event notifications to post-acute care providers when a patient has been admitted, discharged, or transferred. This white paper reviews this proposal and what a hospital must do to operationalize the new CoPs.
