U.S. and International Law Overview

When it comes to individual people’s private data, the U.S. is a less civilized country compared to other countries.

In the United States, data is presumptively not protected by any privacy law unless there is a particular statute or rule that applies to that type of information. Many of the privacy rules in the United States are sector-based such as health and medical information, or financial service customer information, and not much more. This video reviews U.S. scattershot laws and federal law sector examples, as well as the risks of potential liability.
