The Basics of 1099 Reporting

There are new forms in draft version that will be part of the information reporting forms to be seen in 2019 or 2020.

There can be many different types of payments which require 1099s. To keep all the details straight, the IRS has an IRS Guide to Information Returns publication which will provide a list of the more than 100 types of payments and the specific forms required to be filed with the payment. In an effort to decrease both backup withholding “B” notices and penalties notices, the IRS has established through its website, an e?Services On?Line TIN Matching Program. This video reviews how these resources can be helpful and discusses how the benefit of filing information returns electronically can be more cost effective and allows for a later due date of filing most returns.
