In 2011 Symantec did a survey asking organizations how frequently specific documents are requested in conjunction with legal compliance or regulatory requests. Social media, instant messenger, SharePoint®, email, database or application data, and files and document are often requested irrespective of where it resides. Information that is captured and migrated to somewhere else that has been subject to a legal hold helps you to determine when you can discard anything else.
