Materials for Concrete

Quality Concrete depends on many factors and should be designed specifically for its intended use.

Concrete is a mixture of cement, water, coarse aggregate (gravel or crushed stone), and fine aggregate (sand). Supplementary cementitious materials may also be used, such as fly ash, metakaolin, silica fume, slag, and calcined shale, which may help with the performance and mitigate problems. Many people don’t realize that what you select for your materials with concrete will have everything to do with its performance, its livelihood, and how long it will go before it needs maintenance. This video reviews material for concrete, concrete mixtures for flatwork, and types of reinforcing.
