Federal and state withholding, discretionary deductions for union dues, court ordered deductions, and accidental deductions, are just a few of the different types of payroll deductions. Most of these payroll deductions issues arise under the state wage payment and collection laws. The crux of the problem is if you make an improper deduction from an employee’s wages that is the equivalent of not paying them for wages that they have earned. This video reviews general rules on deduction and other areas of concern.
