Estate Planning for Mixed Families

Is estate planning even needed with the new tax law?

Estate planning is the process of deciding what should happen to your assets at death or become incapacitated, and taking the steps to ensure your decisions can be carried out. The estate tax exemption will be raised to $11 million for an individual and $22 million if you are married and elect portability. Most professionals don’t have clients with that much in assets. However, only one part of estate planning is the taxation aspect. The tax professional’s role in estate planning has mostly changed as less and less people are subject to the estate tax. However, a lot of estate planning involves an attorney creating trusts, and other entities that have tax obligations. Watch this video for help with creating goals for estate planning, how to avoid probate and different types of trusts.
