How is HIPAA protected information acquired?
How is it that an employer, as part of its normal operations, might acquire or use health information that’s protected by HIPAA? It’s important to keep in mind that it’s only the group health plan part of the employer’s operations that is covered by the HIPAA privacy rule, but employer’s come into contact with information that falls within the protections of the HIPAA privacy rule all the time. This video reviews how it is that information that might constitute as protected information under HIPAA comes to an employer.
