Water Well Design and Site Selection

Gain an understanding of the causes and the approaches used to prevent or correct poor well performance.

This presentation will cover the fundamentals related to siting wells, well designs, and the design aspects of constructing wells, including materials and parameters related to the casing/screen string, gravel packing, grouting, well development, and testing. The testing discussion will include the multiple functions of testing, including designing the pump installation, establishing the initial efficiency of the well, and the use of ongoing testing data to assess the operation and maintenance of wells over time. Rehabilitation methods for wells will also be discussed. This presentation is designed for anyone interested in the entire process related to well drilling, from siting the well to the design, installation, and operation of existing wells.

Lytle Water Solutions, LLC

  • President, Lytle Water Solutions, LLC
  • Over 45 years of experience as a water resources engineer and has managed hundreds of drilling projects in all types of geologic terranes for both water supply production as well as monitoring well systems
  • Experience managing drilling projects that have included well design, construction observation, well development, aquifer testing, water quality sampling, operations and periodic maintenance of wells, and well rehabilitations
  • Designed, observed construction of, developed, tested, and sampled dozens of deep sedimentary bedrock wells, from 400 to 2,800 feet deep, as well as shallow alluvial aquifer wells for municipal well production
  • Pioneered aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) in the Denver Basin of Colorado for the recharge and subsequent recovery of source waters using large-diameter production wells, and has subsequently designed, observed construction and testing of, and operated ASR systems in sedimentary bedrock and alluvial aquifer systems
  • Designed, observed construction of, and managed multiple monitoring well systems to characterize environmental issues at industrial sites, and provide remedial action plans, including interfacing with regulatory agencies
  • Designed and managed multiple monitoring well systems to identify and quantify groundwater flow and aquifer hydraulic aquifer conditions for the purpose of developing numerical groundwater flow and fate and transport models
  • Designed, observed construction of, and managed multiple monitoring well systems to support hydrologic and hydrogeologic permitting aspects of mines
  • Assisted clients with evaluation of well performance over time and the development of periodic well maintenance programs, as well as designing the specific well rehabilitation methods given the performance issues in the wells
  • Has managed drilling project across the U.S., including New York, Tennessee, South Carolina, Louisiana, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, California, Alaska, and Colorado, as well as drilling projects in Panama and Chile
