Threat Assessment and Risk Management: Understanding and Preventing Targeted School Violence

Targeted school violence involves the deliberate selection of a school as the location of a violent attack. School personnel, students, family and community members can fail to recognize or report pre-incident indicators to violence and behaviors of concern because they haven’t been trained to do so. This on-demand webinar will provide an overview of the threat assessment process and review specific key areas and behaviors of concern that should be explored when investigating threats and verifying information. You will learn strategies for preventing targeted school violence and creating a culture of safety. You will gain an understanding of motives and pre-incident indicators. You will also learn how to respond when someone poses a risk of violence to an identifiable target in a school setting.

Learning Objectives:
•You will be able to describe the path to violence and understand four common motives in targeted school violence.
•You will be able to identify behaviors of concern and pre-incident indicators to violence.
•You will be able to recognize thresholds for referring to law enforcement.
