Recent Updates to the EPA's Brownfields Program

Gain the tools needed to successfully assess, remediate and redevelop properties known or suspected to be impacted by hazardous materials.

Many environmental and real estate practitioners do not understand the benefits of redeploying property known or suspected to be impacted by hazardous materials, nor do they understand the variety of programs at the federal and state levels of government that address their concerns of funding, liability protections and finality. They are unaware of the catalogue of incentives available to redevelop these properties and put them back on the tax rolls and into productive use. This topic helps the teams of professionals assembled by private developers and/or municipalities to gather the tools needed to successfully assess, remediate and redevelop these properties for beneficial reuse. The content also explains the importance of public/private partnerships, how various incentives can be layered and leveraged to maximize benefits and minimize risks, and where to find additional resources to make your project successful. Since its inception the federal brownfield program created these benefits for local communities: 1.) Projects leveraged $17.79 per EPA dollar expended; 2.) Projects leveraged more than 97,000 jobs nationwide; and 3.) Residential property values increased between 5.1%-12.8% near brownfields sites when cleanup is completed. This information is important for professionals interested in sustainable redevelopment and economic growth.
