How to Recognize Human Trafficking, Elder Scams, and Identity Fraud

Gain the information needed about identity and fraud crimes and how they are committed so you can recognize and prevent them.

Millions of people are affected by human trafficking, elder scams, and identity theft. Human trafficking is a global crisis affecting over 40 million people; 38% of these victims are children according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. According to an FTI report on elder scams, people over 60 filed 147,127 complaints and lost approximately $4,885 billion in 2024, with $83,000 reported as the average loss. Reports show that older adults are significantly more likely to fall prey to certain types of scams versus younger adults. In 2024, the Federal Trade Commission received over 1.1 million identity theft complaints and 2.6 million fraud complaints, resulting in over $12.7 billion in losses. This course will provide an informative overview of human trafficking, elder scams, and identity theft crimes - how they are committed, how they can be recognized, and how they can be prevented.
