Work Time Issues at the Start and End of the Work Day

 
Although the Department of Labor and the courts have provided general guidance as to what activities constitute work and when the activities must be compensated, the application of the general concepts is often difficult. Moreover, special rules or interpretations sometimes apply. The following sections discuss a series of activities, often occurring between home and the employee’s work station, that present typical work time issues at the start and end of the work day.
