Nebraska's CPE Guidelines
Nebraska's most recent CPE guidelines came into effect in September of 2010. They specify that any CPA licensed in the state must complete 80 credit hours of continuing education every two calendar years. Four ethics credit hours must be obtained each renewal period, through this does not have to be done through one course — any combination of training in broad or general ethics can be used to meet this requirement. The State Board of Accountancy strongly recommends — but does not require — that a minimum 40% of courses be specifically about auditing and accounting. It is also recommended that no more than 20% be devoted to personal development, with the remainder focusing on technical subjects related to the practice of accountancy.
Credits in any subject can be earned though formal courses, which includes qualifying webinars and related e-learning courses. As well, up to 50% of credits per reporting period can be obtained via self-study.
