Problem Birds in Public Spaces: Bird Droppings and Beyond

Understand the methods used in bird control and the controversies that may arise.

Birds constitute one of the most difficult types of animals to control. Control typically is expensive and can frequently encounter opposition from those opposed to the management of birds. This topic will review the issues and conflicts humans have with birds, the methods and strategies (both effective and ineffective) used to control birds, and provide tips on handling the political and social controversies surrounding bird control. Resources for further information will round out the material. While attention will center on pigeons, house sparrows, starlings, and woodpeckers the information is easily applicable to other bird species.
