Drafting Document Retention Policies

Ensure your company has an effective records retention program in place that saves time and money. Many companies are buried by gargantuan amounts of records and information and electronically-stored data volumes continue to grow at exponential rates. Soaring e-discovery costs, legal and compliance risks and the high price tag for IT to store, manage and search through massive amounts of information have propelled records retention from the back burner to a red-hot issue - for both legal and IT. In the context of litigation, document review and production can account for as much as 60% of total litigation costs, but the vast majority of data collected is of little or no relevance to the litigation or constitute records that could have been legally eliminated prior to the event triggering the companys duty to preserve records. When companies clean house and proactively manage data, the results are lower data storage costs, dramatically lower litigation discovery costs and increased efficiency in both the business and litigation contexts. Gain practical guidance for legal counsel in formulating and implementing an effective and legally defensible records retention program that meets the business needs of the company while also providing significant cost-savings in litigation.
