Pretrial Order for Paralegals

Starting as early as you can with pretrial order is essential to start the trial off on the right path. There are many things that a paralegal can do in the pretrial order – this is the framework for the trial. From determining the attorneys that are conduction the trial, to estimating how long the trial may last, are there any pending motions, and creating the exhibit list. The more you do, the more the attorney can focus on the trial.

Our speaker, Marlo Orlin Leach, also reviews exhibits that are used at trial. Real evidence are the key documents that can affect the outcome of a trial. These exhibits need to be legible, clear, effective and original. Demonstrative evidence needs to paint a picture or tell a story, and can include charts, diagrams or drawings. We are a visual society and are constantly looking at something. Jurors need to watch and see the evidence during trial.

Marlo Orlin Leach is a managing member of Leach and Lowe LLC. She focuses her legal practice on tort, commercial, and environmental litigation. She defends premises and product liability actions involving property damage and personal injury, including claims based on toxic torts, indoor air quality, and the manufacture and use of tools, machinery, and chemicals.
