As an accounting professional, you already know how important it is to stay current with your continuing professional education. CPE is not just a requirement to maintain your licensing with your state’s accountancy board. It is also a vital part of your ability to deliver the best service possible for your clients. State and federal tax laws are constantly changing and, unless you invest in regular training that prioritizes quality, up-to-date information, you are missing an opportunity to save your clients money. Ideally, CPE should do more than just meet your compliance requirements. That is where Lorman Education Services comes in. We have been a leading provider of CPE for New Mexico accountants for more than 30 years. Sign up for an All-Access Pass and make us your first choice for all your training needs.
Meeting Your New Mexico CPE Requirements
New Mexico’s CPE requirements are set by the state’s Regulation & Licensing Department, based on guidelines recommended by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (nasba-group-internet-based) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). CPE evaluations are over a rolling three-year cycle, which begins at the start of the month after your birth month and ends on the last day of your birth month three years later. During this period, licensed CPAs must complete 120 hours of qualifying CPE training. This can include webinars, live training and self-study courses.
No fewer than 20 credits can be earned each year of the three-year cycle. Of the total number of required credits, 96 must be in a technical subject and 4.0 must be in professional ethics. CPE is generally self-reported though every year; approximately 15% of renewal applicants will be randomly selected for an audit.
