No matter where you are in your career, professional development training should be a priority for any accountant or auditor. For CPAs in Michigan, ongoing training is a requirement of the state’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. It’s also a great way to keep your skills up-to-date and, ultimately, to improve the quality of service you offer your clients.
CPE Requirements in Michigan
Licensed CPAs in Michigan are required to complete 40 credit hours of CPE for every 12-month renewal period (from July 1 to June 31). Of these, a minimum of 8.0 credit hours must be in accounting or auditing, and 2.0 must be in professional ethics. This requirement can be met by any course or training program that studies the Michigan Code of Conduct, ethical reasoning or ethics enforcement, or related topics.
Credit can be obtained through live training, including both in-person and webinar courses. Up to 50% of credits each renewal period can be earned via qualifying self-study programs.
