What Constitutes Suspicious Activity and When Should You Report It

Learn how to identify suspicious activity and when it is appropriate to report it.

Suspicious behavior is more than a nosey neighbor peeking out the window collecting fodder for gossip. Or an employee fishing for confidential information from you. What constitutes suspicious behaviors are incidents, events, individuals, or circumstances that seem unusual or out of place. Sometimes it can be confusing to know what to report and when to report it. A person carrying property such as computer equipment, stereo, or a locked bike, at an unusual time or location. A bag or suitcase left at a bus stop, could contain an explosive device that goes off when someone lifts it up or opens it. We have lost our innocence ... This topic is intended to help you recognize what constitutes suspicious behavior and when and how you should report it! Suspicious behavior or activity can be any action that is out of place and does not fit into the usual day-to-day activity of your community. For example, you see someone looking into multiple vehicles or homes or testing to see if they are unlocked. Someone leaves a package or suitcase at a bus stop or a restaurant, etc. The information will include what is considered suspicious activities; how do you recognize it; suspicious behavior at work; suspicious behavior in your community and steps to confront it; if you see something, say something; and deciding when and how to get involved.
