Complying With Wisconsin Wage and Hour Laws

Make sure you are in compliance with the changes in Wisconsin's State and Hour Wage Laws. With all of the attention on the DOL's Final Overtime Rule, now is a perfect time to recap the obligations employers face under Wisconsin's Wage and Hour law. While there are many similarities between the state and federal laws, Wisconsin law embraces specifics that differ from the federal law in important ways and the federal law preempts other aspects of Wisconsin law. Managers and HR professionals will be forced to adjust current payroll practices and alter employees pay in order to comply with the new law regardless of which state they operate in. Many businesses will not know how to alter existing policies or how to manage employees who had always been overtime exempt, but now are not. This topic helps identify what has not changed in Wisconsin, but also what positions are at risk under the new law, how to come into compliance, and how to communicate the changes to those affected. The topic will also highlight the significance a wage and hour self-audit can have in avoiding future liability. Things are not as they were and employers need to take proactive steps to avoid an aggressive Department of Labor audit. This information is critical for employers so they can ensure their exempt employees comply with the new standard and, if they no longer can financially maintain the exempt status, what alternatives are available to them.
