Prepare, respond, and recover stronger from catastrophic incidents and risks.
The frequency and severity of catastrophic incidents such as plant explosions, fires, or chemical releases continues to increase, and natural disasters like wildfires, hurricane, and earthquake can devaste a company's bottom line. While most companies purchase insurance coverage to mitigate these exposures, catastrophic incidents can result in regulatory actions and litigation exposure on many fronts, as well as substantial business interruption losses and long-term damage to a company's brand. When a company is dealing with the immediate aftermath of an incident, it may be faced with inquiries from several different enforcement agencies while receiving unwanted attention in the press and social media. Advance planning before the incident is critical to ensuring that the company will remain in control and make smart decisions as pressured company officials are faced with responding to competing, around-the-clock demands on their time in the hours, days, and months following an incident. Further, structuring an appropriate insurance program in advance of incidents, and then ensuring proper coordination between a company's incident response team and its insurers when a disaster strikes, can be critical when attempting to maximize insurance recoveries. In this course, panelists will discuss their experiences in advance planning for catastrophic incidents, steps which should be taken in the wake of a catastrophic incident to minimize regulatory and legal liability, and strategies for maximizing insurance coverage for natural disasters and other catastrophic incidents.
