Effective Use of Social Media During Jury Selection

When it comes to building your jury profile, social media can be a valuable platform.

Time has almost always been of the essence during voir dire and jury selection, but attorneys now face the additional task of conducting social media and background searches. In addition to questioning jurors during voir dire, attorneys must now search for jurors on social media; identify whether they have found the correct juror; review each juror's social media content; and then incorporate those findings with the information that you have learned during voir dire. That is certainly too much for one person to do effectively, but how can team members conduct these searches and integrate their findings within the time and physical parameters of court? This topic will focus on preparing for voir dire in advance, which takes some pressure off the trial team during the voir dire, social media review, and jury selection process. Learn how to build a juror profile and how to use that profile among members of your trial team so everyone is on the same page with respect to what they are reviewing. Learn how to use technology that allows everyone to communicate effectively and in real time with one another so information isn't lost in the process, even for those who are doing searches away from the courthouse. This is a practical topic that will stress pointers that should make your life easier during voir dire and jury selection.
