Richard is the President of Decision Analysis, Inc. and leads its Los Angeles office. With 31 years of trial consulting experience, he has worked on more than 1200 civil and criminal cases across the country. He is the author of Acquittal: An Insider Reveals the Stories and Strategies Inside Today’s Most Infamous Verdicts, which was optioned by Warner Brothers and developed by Jerry Bruckheimer productions into a one-hour network drama. Richard is the co-author of Jury Selection: Strategy and Science, now in its third edition with Thomson Reuters, as well as numerous articles for legal publications and law reviews.

Richard has served on the Implicit Bias Task Force for the American Bar Association and was on the committee that developed national recommendations for Short, Summary and Expedited Trials (SSE) for the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System. Richard is the inventor of jury mediation, a new ADR system to help resolve disputes that have not been able to settle through traditional dispute resolution.

Richard is conducted more than 250 training sessions and lectures for thousands of litigators nationally as a regular speaker at law schools, bar associations and law firms on jury selection, research, and trial communication strategy. Richard is the past president of the American Society of Trial Consultants and appears regularly as a commentator on jury issues for CNN, CBS, ABC, and NBC.
