  • Focuses practice on import and export regulation compliance and international shipping issues which includes negotiating and structuring international commercial transactions to minimize duties and taxes and comply with federal regulations
  • Represents clients before various agencies concerned with international commerce, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Federal Maritime Commission, the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Industry and Security, the International Trade Administration and the Office of Foreign Assets Control
  • On import matters, she advises clients on classification, valuation, marking, country of origin and preference program matters
  • Has extensive experience working with clients on internal audits and prior disclosures to prevent penalties and represents them before the government when penalties are assessed
  • Regarding export matters, she counsels clients from the application of the Export Administration Regulations and the Foreign Trade Regulations to their international shipments
  • Works with clients to classify their products correctly and assists them in complying with export clearance requirements; in addition, she represents exporters in investigations conducted by the Office of Export Enforcement and assists them in preparing and filing voluntary disclosures
  • On shipping issues, she represents clients before the Federal Maritime Commission; she files license applications for ocean freight forwarders and non-vessel-operating common carriers and represents shippers as well as ocean transportation intermediaries before the FMC in administrative actions
  • J.D. degree, University of Maryland School of Law; LL.M degree in International Commercial Law, Georgetown University Law Center; B.S. degree, Johns Hopkins University
