Understand the rules and guidelines of the ethical standards applicable to engineers.
Engineers are held to a high ethical standard to assure public safety, health and welfare and enhance public trust of engineers. This topic will review the rules and guidelines adopted by the states and trade associations to provide assurance of satisfying the ethical standards applicable to engineers. Specifically, the material will address, among other things, conflicts of interest in both private and public projects, acting with honesty and integrity and avoiding dishonesty, obligations of competency, obligations of objectivity, and confidentiality. The information will review court decisions that discuss the penalties and repercussions for the failure to abide by applicable ethical standards.
