Benefits
With the federal government's prioritization of health information technology and evidence that electronic health record systems can reduce medical errors and lead to more efficient delivery of care, many hospitals and providers are beginning to implement EHRs in their facilities and practices. Despite federal regulations that permit certain donations of EHR technology, the implementation and ongoing use of EHRs is expensive and raises many legal concerns. This teleconference will identify the key legal issues and pitfalls associated with using and maintaining EHR systems, with an emphasis on potential litigation issues. This teleconference is critical for hospitals considering an EHR implementation - whether for internal use or for use by community physicians - and for physicians and other users of EHR technology. You will learn risk management strategies for structuring successful EHR initiatives, when electronic data preservation measures must be put in place, and practical advice regarding anticipated litigation issues. This program is a must in light of the move to universal electronic health care records and the national changes to the rules of discovery.
