Why Don't People Cooperate

What is it about cooperation that can seem so difficult to engender between people?

One of the reasons is that people can be unmotivated and think “what’s in it for me?” and don’t see a reason to cooperate. They only see only benefit to themselves by being self-centered and looking out for their own interests. They don’t see the value of cooperating with other people to produce a higher good. In an organization it’s the leaders role to instill and motivate people to cooperate and explain why cooperation is in their best interests and why selfishness is against their interests. It all depends on the culture of the organization.
