Traditional Role of the Paralegal and How It Has Changed As Rules Of Discovery Have Changed

The role of a paralegal is ever changing.

Back in the 1960s and 1970s, paralegals started off as secretaries. Soon attorneys started taking advantage of the knowledge and the support that secretaries were giving and the profession itself started to develop. Besides secretary, paralegals have several different titles. In some places they are called a legal assistant, and even more so as this role is morphing into a more specialized area directly related to litigation and specifically discovery, we now see the title of discovery specialist or discovery liaison. As this field continues to develop these new areas of speciality continue to pop up as well.
