Preparing a Land Survey

Do surveyors serve a quasi-judicial function when it comes to boundaries?

Establishment of boundaries is a function of juries; the location of boundaries is a function of surveyors. There has been some debate within the surveying community on whether surveyors serve as a quasi-judicial function that includes the determination of boundaries. Our speaker disagrees with that notion. Land surveyors do not establish land boundaries; they locate the boundaries. This video reviews original and retracement surveys; and covers the step of preparing a survey from research to field and office procedures.
