Planning Ethics

Understand the importance of ethics in planning.

Examine situational ethics, perspectives on ethical responsibilities, and standards for decision making to be a truly ethical planner.Planners of all types – public sector, consultants, elected and appointed officials – are constantly bombarded with competing interest, demands, and allegiances. The overarching consideration in most of their decision making is how to do their jobs ethically, but the path forward is not always clear.
This topic will sharpen the planner’s focus of what are the ethical issues, how do these seemingly intractable problems present themselves, in what ways might they be addressed, and by what standards should planners be guided. This material will provide the knowledge and skills essential to being a truly ethical planner and thereby to be effective in making decisions and avoiding potential criticism and liability.
