Designer-Led Design Build: Return of the Master Builder

Be a master builder and seize the opportunity to not only design but also construct your projects.

For years, lawyers and insurers have told architects they cannot guarantee construction prices or completion dates or take responsibility for the actual construction of what they design. In reality, by structuring projects carefully and intelligently, architects can lead design-build teams without undue risk. Understand how architects can form strategic alliances with general contractors, market their design-build capabilities and maintain greater control over their projects, all while minimizing their risks and seeking potentially greater earnings. This topic instructs architects on how to contract directly with owners as the prime member of a design-build team and subcontract the actual construction to a general contractor teammate. The Designer-Led Design Build program, developed decades ago by Schiff Hardin Construction Law Group partner, Mark C. Friedlander, has helped many architects and engineers return to the once-exalted status of master builders by seizing the opportunity to construct the projects they design.
