Consumer debt collection is frequently the most common type of complaint filed with state and Federal agencies, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

The first party creditors, collection agencies and law firms need to understand the Federal and state regulatory requirements for pursuing collection of consumer debts so as to avoid violations of law. This topic will furnish a historical perspective of debt collection harassment claims, will explain the number of Federal state laws addressing consumer debt collection and will help organizations recognize deficiencies in their collection procedures with the goal of ensuring compliance with laws regulating collection practices.

  • Published articles in law reviews and trade publications on creditors' rights issues; was an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore School of Law and a lecturer on business law at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland
