California has again experienced a distressing drought that caused hardship and awaked newfound recognition for the need to augment and safeguard potable water supplies across the state. Understanding the intricacies of the different sources of water that can be part of a water supply portfolio is necessary for public agencies, attorneys, consultants and others involved directly or tangentially with water issues such as public water supplies, future development, and the maintaining or growing of commercial, industrial and agricultural businesses. Water supplies are fast becoming an issue for litigation across the state and many issues once avoided are being given a second life. This topic will assist people to identify many of the current issues surrounding water supplies, provide guidance to understand the impacts of past, present and future water policy, and present the current legislative and legal issues as we begin a new water year.
