Key Indicators of Problem Loans

OnDemand Webinar

96-minute program available anytime
  • 96 minutes

Problem loans have existed for as long as financial institutions have been lending money and in many ways are analogous to a medical illness because they threaten the health of the lending institution. If recognized and diagnosed early, appropriate action or treatment may result in a complete recovery, while ignoring the symptoms and hoping the condition will improve can make the problem worse or even fatal. There are many possible causes and symptoms of problem loans, some of which are easier to recognize than others and not all are life threatening. Much like a physician, the lender must be able to recognize the symptoms, identify the cause, evaluate the severity, and determine the appropriate action to address the problem. All too often, early warning signs of problem loans are not recognized or ignored to the lenderís detriment. With this OnDemand Webinar you will obtain a general understanding of the many possible indicators of problem loans, learn to differentiate temporary setbacks from critical conditions, and determine what actions to take to address the problem. Case studies will be used to further illustrate the existence of key indicators throughout the presentation. This program will benefit personnel who have responsibility for evaluating and underwriting new loan requests, administering existing borrowing relationships, and ensuring the overall health of their institutionís loan portfolio.

Learning Objectives:

  • You will be able to identify key indicators (the symptoms).
  • You will be able to discuss investigation (the tests).
  • You will be able to review the evaluation (the diagnosis).
  • You will be able to discuss post mortem.
