Benefits

There are millions of existing buildings and numerous opportunities to reduce their energy waste, save money, improve health and productivity, and exploit new technologies that have recently become available to help the environment. This live audio conference will help you understand how the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED® for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance™ rating and certification system works. The USGBC LEED® for Existing Buildings: O&M™ program's goal is obtaining higher performance in buildings that have already been constructed and currently are in operation. The LEED® for Existing Buildings: O&M™ rating system helps building owners and operators assess the performance of their buildings and assists in the identification of goals and strategies that allow uniform consideration of improvements. This rating system emphasizes maximizing operational service and efficiency while minimizing environmental impacts. It addresses whole-building energy and water use, indoor comfort and air quality, cleaning and maintenance issues, including chemical use, recycling programs, purchasing activity, transportation integration and exterior maintenance programs.

Learning Objectives

  • You will be able to explain the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED® for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance™ certification system, as updated through Q1-2011.
  • You will be able to identify opportunities to reduce energy waste, improve health and productivity, save money, and exploit new technologies in existing commercial buildings.
  • You will be able to review methods used to obtain LEED® credits for implementing environmental design in existing buildings.
  • You will be able to define goals and recognize useful strategies allowing uniform consideration of green existing building improvements.
